Beta-Alanine - non-protein amino acid, constitutional isomer of alpha-alanine, essential for the synthesis of pantothenic acid, coenzyme A, balenine, anserine or carnosine. It is a limiting compound and thus, when externally administered, increases the concentration of carnosine (β-alanyl-L-histidine), whose action is mainly responsible for the effects of beta-alanine supplementation. Carnosine is primarily a potent, multidirectional antioxidant compound.
